The Chess Mates Story

Chess Mates was founded in 2012 by Ash Reddy with a simple goal - to make chess more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for young children.

At the time, there were very few chess programs designed for younger kids, and many focused heavily on competition. Chess Mates set out to do things differently.

We introduced fun, age-appropriate lessons for children as young as three, focusing not only on strategy, but also on confidence, creativity, and social skills.

Today, Chess Mates is trusted by families across Queensland and beyond for delivering engaging chess programs that kids genuinely enjoy.

How We Teach

Chess Mates classes are delivered by passionate, qualified instructors who all hold current Working With Children Checks or Blue Cards.

Our programs run in schools across South-East Queensland, with online lessons available as requested.

Lessons are tailored to suit each age group - with younger students learning through games, puzzles, and storytelling, while older students build their skills through more advanced gameplay and strategy.

Our focus is on building strong chess foundations while helping children develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and a love for learning.
